HOLMAN,
Dr Peter Russell.
One of Sydney’s longtime leading orthopaedic surgeons, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Monday, May 6 2024 at the age of 83. Peter was born in Sydney and grew up on the Lower North Shore with his siblings, Douglas, Trevor and Jenny. He spent his youth on Sydney’s Northern Beaches surfing, fishing and developing what would become a lifelong passion: golf. After graduating from Shore School, Peter studied Medicine at the University of Sydney and in the late 1960s, travelled to London where for the next three years, he studied and was admitted to the Royal College of Surgeons. Returning to Australia, he began his career in orthopaedics which quickly became his major life focus and vocation. He was well known for his patience, caring and warmth as well as his expertise and was happiest helping others be they patients, or the many young medical students he mentored and inspired. For many years he was at the forefront, advancing orthopaedics in Australia as well as in his role as orthopaedic surgeon at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
He was much loved by his family and many many friends of all ages. He is survived by his wife of more than 55 years, Tweed and their three children, Scott, Anna and Paul.
The funeral service at 2.15 pm on Monday, May 13 2024 and will be held at the North Chapel at Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens and Crematorium, Delhi Rd, North Ryde. A celebration of Peter’s life will be held after the ceremony at Pymble Golf Club, where he was a member for more than half a century.
The Holman family would like to encourage donations to Dementia Australia Research Foundation to join the fight against this heartbreaking and debilitating disease.
