NOLAN, Gerry

Aged 84 years

Born Gerald Wallace Nolan in Whyalla SA, to Frank and Florrie (both deceased); known as ‘Gerry’ outside of SA, with pen-name, ‘Gerry O Nolan’; long-time resident and former Mayor of North Sydney. After an extraordinary life as an electronics technician, sailor, pilot, geophysicist, community activist, adventurer, prankster, mayor, author, editor, publisher, philosopher, mentor, raconteur and father, ‘lovable rogue’ Gerry Nolan died peacefully on Friday 31st January 2025, at Royal North Shore Hospital, age 84, with loved ones by his side.

Former husband and dear friend of Susan Nolan nee Lloyd (dec.); beloved father of Sarah, Emma and Kay, and de facto father-in-law to Gavin; brother to John, Graham (dec.), Lloyd (dec.) and Ian (dec.); brother-in-law to Margaret and Judy; ‘Uncle Gerald’ to many nieces, nephews and great nieces/nephews; and ‘adopted grandpa’ to more.

At Gerry’s request, his body has been donated to medical science and there will be no funeral. A wake is being organised by invite only, with his blessing, for family and friends to come together on Sunday 2 March 2025, at North Sydney Community Centre, in celebration of his remarkable life.
